Electric Trucks
Gridserve has opened the UK's first public charging hubs for electric HGVs at Extra Baldock and Moto Exeter. The sites form part of the Electric Freightway programme backed by £62.7 million in government funding. Five more locations follow later this year.
Hydrogen Trucks
Daimler Truck will build 100 liquid-hydrogen fuel cell trucks at Wörth from late 2026. Full series production has slipped to the early 2030s as infrastructure lags. The NextGenH2 shares components with the battery-electric eActros 600.
Electric Trucks
A DAF XF Electric carried 12 tonnes of freight from the East Midlands to Haiger, Germany and back, charging at megawatt-speed in the UK and topping up at public hubs in France and Belgium. LeShuttle Freight says all eHGVs can use the tunnel later this year.
Hydrogen News
Cavendish Hydrogen has won a €4-5m contract to build a 350 bar refuelling station, with Everfuel as subcontractor. The same pairing built the Frankfurt and Wuppertal stations. Customer to be announced.
Hydrogen News
A new study commissioned by the German Hydrogen Association finds that electrifying all long-haul trucks would require 8GW of midday charging power - far exceeding planned infrastructure capacity. It argues hydrogen could ease grid pressure.
Electric Cars
The purpose-built demonstrator used an 87kWh battery - the same size as the Scenic E-Tech - to travel 1,008km at an average of 102km/h, consuming just 7.8kWh per 100km. Renault says the findings will inform future production EVs.
ZEV Mandate
What is the ZEV mandate? The UK regulation requiring car manufacturers to sell increasing percentages of electric vehicles until 2035. Here's how it works.
Electric Cars
The French brand registered over 19,000 electric cars last year - a 123% increase on 2024 - with the Renault 5 taking the top retail EV spot in three months. All Renault EVs qualify for the Electric Car Grant.
Hydrogen News
The governing body has ratified safety rules for liquid hydrogen in motorsport, developed with aerospace and automotive partners. Toyota, Alpine and BMW are among manufacturers exploring the technology for endurance racing.
Electric Cars
Nearly half a million electric cars were registered in the UK in 2025, but the SMMT says manufacturers spent over £5bn on discounts to hit ZEV mandate targets. With the EU softening its own rules, the trade body is calling for an early review.
Electric Trucks
Government adds £18m to the Plug-in Truck Grant, increasing electric HGV discounts to £120,000. Funding runs until March 2026 alongside a new consultation on phasing out diesel lorry sales by 2040. The market sits at 1% EV uptake.
